The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our first choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. And, if you have to change the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, however it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with mixed flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's compact models this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our tests. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite loud which could be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and some additional cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.
For bigger homes, it's worth opting for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a large furniture. Also, a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app also grants access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba.
